We discuss what Bendu’s “middle path” could mean. We recoil at Ezra’s dark side abilities. We talk about how Thrawn talks. Anna complains that Thrawn’s too smart. And we put another tick mark in the “Defecting Kallus” column.

Here’s the image of the “Spice Wars” book in Ezra’s room.

STAR WARSY STUFF [2:35]

Liam and I have been reading the Vader comic’s Shu-Torun War trade paperback. It’s pretty good. I’ll be sad to see Vader end, but I’m also looking forward to what’s next.

We’ve been watching the Go Rogue short films full of toys.

And we learned in that third video that one of the planets in Rogue One is named Eadu!

screen-shot-2016-09-16-at-8-17-09-am

I checked out the first episode of You Seek Knowledge, which is a great podcast that explores the nooks and crannies of the galaxy far, far away. Check it out.

And the title of that podcast leads to a discussion about how Maul has become a sympathetic character, even though we don’t consider him one of the “good guys.”

WHAT’S THAT SOUND? [8:45]

What’s the deal with Garindan’s voice? Well, pilgrim, it has an interesting story, I’ll tell ya what.

NEWS [12:20]

Rogue One has a new composer. Alexandre Desplat is out and Michael Giacchino is in! Giacchino composed the music for such kid favorites as The Incredibles, Inside Out, Up and Zootopia. And he’s a huge Star Wars geek. So … awesome.

A new Yoda arc is coming up in the Star Wars comic. It’s going to tell the story of a pre-prequel adventure of Yoda’s. We’re looking forward to it and want varying degrees of revelations.

CANON NEWS [21:35]

How does the Empire feel about non-humans? Not so great.

JOKE [33:35]

Isaac asks: Who is Darth Maul’s little brother?

I ask: What did Han Solo say when, while on a pirate ship, he spotted someone on a far away island?

Q&A COUNCIL [35:40]

Isaac also has a question for the Question and Answer Council. Who was Yoda’s master?

There are so many ways to approach this question and we try them all out.

Here’s an image of N’Kata Del Gormo, the only one of Yoda’s masters that was ever established in the Legends continuity.

gormo_training_yoda

What do you think? Would you like to see N’Kata Del Gormo make the jump to canon? Do you even want to know who Yoda’s master really was? Let us know in the comments or leave us a voicemail at speakpipe.com/childrenoftheforce

STAR WARSY STUFF [6:10]

Chris recently read the new Jedi Academy book by Jarrett Krosoczka. You can read his review of it here on his Star Wars Kidscast website. We’re looking forward to getting our hands on this book soon.

JediAcademyANewClass.jpg

He’s also reading the new Ahsoka novel, which makes me jealous.

It’s not specifically Star Warsy, but we were recently interviewed by Kate from Nerd of Paradise for a podcast episode about podcasting. We’ll be sure to link to that on our Facebook, Twitter and on here once that episode is up.

In lieu of news, we chat with Chris about his podcast, website and a bunch of other stuff.

CHRIS ROCKS OUT [38:55]

CANON NEWS [39:30]

JOKE [42:40]

Jokes direct from Chris himself!

Where do rebel spies keep their money?
What do you call a rebel spy going backwards?
What do you call a rebel spy who always has a bad day?
What do you call a rebel spy dressed like a Wookiee?

Q&A COUNCIL [44:50]

If you could take a road trip with one Star Wars character, who would it be and why?

Is there a character in Star Wars you wish they had done more with?

Is there a character you wish wasn’t in Star Wars?

STUMP THE LUMP! [1:00:20]

A bunch of questions lead us all to mild lumpdom. They are:

What color are Chewbacca’s eyes?
What is the name of Poe’s squadron in The Force Awakens?
What’s the name of Leia’s blue protocol droid in The Force Awakens?
What’s type of lightsaber is Kylo Ren’s lightsaber?

STAR WARSY STUFF [7:15]

Anna and Liam were guests on The Boink Show. Check it out!

We finished watching The Freemaker Adventures and loved it.

Liam and I are almost done playing Lego The Force Awakens. All we have left is the long climb to Luke Skywalker!

And this isn’t Star Warsy, but we recently finished a re-watch of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s even better when you watch it again. I suggest listening to The Avatar State podcast as you go through the series. Lots of great analysis and it’s pretty hilarious (and 95% kid-friendly). And I don’t even know those people. I just like plugging good podcasts.

Season 3 of Rebels is premiering on September 24th! Check out the new Thrawn-centric teaser:

WHAT’S THAT SOUND? [16:05]

We talk about the language and sound of Jawas! Our discussion includes mention of Trevor Noah’s appearance on this episode of The Star Wars Show:

NEWS [19:25]

Star Wars Reads Day is approaching! At some point in October!

The Rogue One: Catalyst synopsis is here!

War is tearing the galaxy apart. For years the Republic and the Separatists have battled across the stars, each building more and more deadly technology in an attempt to win the war. As a member of Chancellor Palpatine’s top secret Death Star project, Orson Krennic is determined to develop a superweapon before their enemies can. And an old friend of Krennic’s, the brilliant scientist Galen Erso, could be the key.

Galen’s energy-focused research has captured the attention of both Krennic and his foes, making the scientist a crucial pawn in the galactic conflict. But after Krennic rescues Galen, his wife, Lyra, and their young daughter, Jyn, from Separatist kidnappers, the Erso family is deeply in Krennic’s debt. Krennic then offers Galen an extraordinary opportunity: to continue his scientific studies with every resource put utterly at his disposal. While Galen and Lyra believe that his energy research will be used purely in altruistic ways, Krennic has other plans that will finally make the Death Star a reality. Trapped in their benefactor’s tightening grasp, the Ersos must untangle Krennic’s web of deception to save themselves and the galaxy itself.

Sort of hard to believe how much information is in there and what that information is.

Could this be Jyn’s mom? It seems more likely now, given the information in this synopsis.

NEWS [19:20]

Bunch of news this episode, too much to list here. But here’s Edrio Two-Tubes:

edrio two-tubes.jpg

We analyze the new Rogue One entries in the Star Wars databank. Check those entries out at the Rogue One page over on starwars.com[[[http://www.starwars.com/films/rogue-one]]].

And of course, we react to and analyze the new Rogue One trailer. You’ve already seen it, but watch it again!

We didn’t talk about the international trailer in this show because it hadn’t come out yet, but if you a juicy bit of information about Jyn’s dad, give it a watch.

And if you’re like me, you may have noticed that Jyn’s “May the Force be with us,” in that international trailer is different from the same line (same scene, same shot) in the Celebration sizzle reel. This shot:

CANON NEWS [1:07:50]

Jabba’s Rancor had a name! And it’s adorable.

JOKE [1:10:32]

Three jokes this episode from Chris from Star Wars Kidscast. Here are the set-ups, you’ll have to listen for the punch lines.

Who is Darth Maul’s little brother?

CotF Special Edition: Liam and Noah

Welcome to the first ever Children of the Force Special Edition. Here we have a conversation between Liam and his friend Noah about Star Wars. I gave them some questions to talk about and then walked out of the room. What resulted is pretty darn fun to listen to. I hope you like it, too.

Here are the questions that Liam and Noah tackled.

What’s your favorite Luke Skywalker moment?

What’s your favorite part of The Force Awakens?

Who do you think would win in a fight, Rey or Wickett?

What’s the deal with Snoke?

Do you think any of the Rebels will survive Rogue One?

What’s your favorite Star Wars toy?

Do you think Rey will become a Jedi, or just a really nice Force user?

What if Kylo turned good and Rey turned bad? Would that just be horrible? Or kind of cool?

Finally, go check out Noah’s youtube channel at

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcB84YlG3DK1VoWf-d356nw

I mean, listen to this song the kid put together in GarageBand. Pretty good!

NEWS [35:50]

Episode VIII has wrapped!

Ahsoka’s Untold Tales panel at SWCE revealed some great information about what we would have seen from Ahsoka toward the end of the Clone Wars. We briefly touch on what each of these three untold story arcs would have been about. And Pablo Hidalgo confirmed that the story group considers these untold tales to have happened.

And we’re getting even more Ahsoka in October, with the Ahsoka novel. Check out this cover:

Oh, and let’s not forget about Thrawn.

NEWS [7:15]

A three-minute Rogue One trailer is coming out this Friday … probably. On ABC! Probably.

Celebration is quickly approaching. The wave of news is going to crash this weekend and it’s going to be hard to stay upright. But we’ll do our best. Are we going to get a name for Episode VIII? Anna thinks so.

Our friend BB-K8 is live-blogging her experience overseas. At the time of recording, she hadn’t made it to Skellig Michael yet. But the next day, she made it there! So happy for her. Check out all the awesomeness of her trip over at Blabba the Hutt: http://blabbathehutt.net/other/live-blog-bb-k8-heads-celebration-europe/

Thankfully for all of us who can’t make it to Celebration, they’re going to be live-streaming it again! The Star Wars Show Live will show us as much of celebration as they can. We’re really looking forward to the Running of the Willrow Hoods!

Jedi Bibliothek posted some images from an upcoming book that gave us three really great images. His post can be found here: https://#-bibliothek.de/blog/2016/07/vorschau-und-infos-zum-neuen-galactic-atlas/

And here are the images:

map.jpg

We loved looking at this map. Mortis! Lothal! Starkiller Base!

But wait… Mortis! It’s a place that can be plotted on a map? That’s a pretty huge deal. It wasn’t all a dream. It was a physical place, which means the people on Mortis were likely also real physical people (as opposed for Force apparitions or whatever). It really concretizes all that weird stuff that went down on Mortis.

Aftermath: Life Debt is out! You should all go get it now. I’ve started reading it and I’m already so, so happy with it. Here’s the excerpt we talked about: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/books/2016/07/08/maz-kanata-star-wars-aftermath-life-debt-exclusive-excerpt/86839668/

We get a great pre-Celebration email from our Star Wars Celebration UK Correspondent, Nick from London. Nick’s email covers Carrie Fischer, Ray Park, Episode VIII, Benicio del Toro, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, a post-Episode IX trilogy… (catches breath) …and is Mace Windu alive?

You know my answer: #snokeismacewindu

STAR WARSY STUFF [0:45]

I recently checked out “The World According to Star Wars” by Cass Sunstein. I’ve started reading it since recording this episode, and so far, it’s a pretty basic “this is Star Wars” type of book. Like a less-interesting “How Star Wars Conquered the Universe” by Chris Taylor. But maybe that’s because I just started it.

And we’ve been playing Battlefront quite a bit since the Bespin pack released. Liam gives a rundown of all that Bespin has to offer.

swbattlefrontbespindetails.jpg
And I talk about what I’ve been up to on Twitter these days.

WHAT’S THAT SOUND? [8:30]

How was Chewbacca’s voice created?

NEWS [12:30]

Entertainment Weekly has a lot of Rogue One news. A lot.

Here’s a link to the photos we talk about.

AN1-192231_0
Here’s the story about Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera.

And here are details on a ton of characters. We didn’t get into all of this in the show, but it’s good information to have. There’s a lot more on ew.com.

I do a somewhat dramatic reading of part of the new Aftermath: Life Debt excerpt that was released over on mashable.com. Pretty cool stuff.

And we got some Star Wars Celebration news. Ray Park and Carrie Fischer will be at Celebration on Sunday, when our UK correspondent Nick is going to be there. But that didn’t seem like enough. So thankfully, it was announced on The Star Wars Show that, yes indeed, Rian Johnson (director of Ep. VIII), Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm), Kiri Hart (senior VP of development at Lucasfilm), and Chris Miller and Phil Lord (the Han Solo standalone) will have a panel talking about their new movies!

JOKE [51:50]

Where did Obi Wan and Satine go after they got married?

STUMP THE LUMP! [52:25]
